Criteria for recognition with Cater Allergy Safer
This document outlines the requirements that must be met by any food business in order to be registered with Food Allergy Friends and Cater Allergy Safer, and what benefits are gained by the business from joining our programmes.
One Star/Essentials programme
- All staff must have either Level 2 Food Allergen Awareness Training (RQF), or have completed the Food Standards’ Agency Allergen Awareness Training.
- The business must have a documented Food Allergen Policy.
- The business must have an Allergen Information Document, completed FSA matrix as minimum, which must be readily available for customers to look through.
- Allergen training must be updated regularly.
- The business must be able to communicate effectively between customer and kitchen.
- The business must pass a Food Allergy Friends’ Cater Allergy Safer annual audit.
Two Star/Core programme
As for One Star/Essentials plus:-
- Senior staff, such as the General Manager, Food & Beverage Manager, Head Chef and their deputies must have Level 3 Food Allergen Management (RQF) training.
- The business must be able to demonstrate safe storage, preparation and service of food for the food hypersensitive diner.
- The business must be able to provide allergy safer food with confidence, and give the customer confidence in their ability.
Three Star/Plus programme
As Two Star/Core Programme plus:-
- Demonstrate exceptional commitment to Catering Allergy Safer by taking further steps such as:-
- Free From options
- Full ingredient information
- Suggestions for alternative safer options
- Ability to adapt dishes to accommodate the FHS diner
- A dedicated person on duty every session to advocate for the FHS customer
- Dedicated equipment and/or areas for preparation and cooking
- Information on the website
- An app for customers and staff to help with allergen and ingredient information

- Support from your Consultant throughout the year with questions or changes as they occur.
- Support from your consultant in producing your documentation, and keeping it updated.
- Access to training and bespoke workshops for your staff at preferential rates.
- Reminders to update training.
- Listing on Food Allergy Friends’ website for the duration of the registration.
- Use of the Cater Allergy Safer logo for the duration of the registration.
- Window Decal to display and identify your business as Cater Allergy Safer recognised.
